16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams failed inspection Thursday after they were found to have modified roof flap spacers (made them lighter) at Daytona International Speedway.
NASCAR confiscated the illegal parts and forced teams to install new roof flaps before their drivers were allowed on track for practice. NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp stated that the spacers were "not in compliance" with the kits issued to each team.
Penalties are possible, but won’t be announced until Monday or Tuesday.
