Hot Laps: Dillon And Burton Burnout At Bondurant
The coolest place to hang out in the Valley of the Sun right before the big NASCAR weekend at Phoenix International Raceway?
That would be the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, the legendary facility run by 80-year-old former racer Bob Bondurant and his uber nice wife and school president, Pat. The Bondurant School has given driving instruction to everyone from Slash and Alice Cooper to the Navy SEALS and countless police agencies from around the world. Next week, the King of Sweden is coming and bringing his son with him.
Thursday at Bondurant, a couple of heavy hitters from the NASCAR community dropped by. There was Jeff Burton, who will make his 1,000 career NASCAR start in Sunday's AdvoCare 500 at PIR, and NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader Austin Dillon.
The two participated in a relay race with media members and did hot laps with Bondurant studs Johnny O'Connell and Darren Law in high-performance Corvettes. O'Connell is the first American to score four class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a member of the Corvette Hall of Fame and VP of Global Operations at the school. Law is the School's Chief Operating Officer and a champion sports car racer as well.
Suffice to say a good time was had by all, and we wonât reveal the name of the one driver who blew the motor in his 'Vette.
After all, what happens in the desert, stays in the desert.
