Chevy Jeff Gordon SS Concept Car Unveiled At SEMA
Sunday was a hugely disappointing day for Jeff Gordon, what with blowing a tire and hitting the wall at Texas Motor Speedway, but he can take some solace in the fact that Chevrolet is showing off a new car with his name on it.
The Chevrolet Jeff Gordon SS performance sedan concept was introduced this weekend at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, a huge orgy of hot cars and aftermarket parts.
The Chevrolet SS, of course, is the car that the General Motors division races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The Jeff Gordon version features a red satin exterior finish, No. 24 graphics, custom-finished 20-inch wheels, a carbon fiber rear spoiler and a custom front grille.
In addition, Chevy has added high-performance brakes and a Borla performance exhaust system. The interior has custom perforated suede seat inserts and embroidered headrests and a racing-style flat-bottom steering wheel and Chevrolet Accessories pedal kit.
Of course, the real lure is under the hood, where the SS uses what is essentially a Corvette engine, an LS3 6.2-liter V-8 rated at 415 horsepower. No word yet on whether this will remain just a concept or be available to the public.
