American Hero Gunnery Sgt. Samuel Deeds Honored At Indianapolis
NASCAR joined forces with Crown Royal and Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend to honor Gunnery Sgt. Samuel Deeds.
Deeds, a true American hero, had Sunday's "Crown Royal presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard" named after him for his services to the United States of America.
While serving as a gunnery seargent in Iraq in 2005, Deeds discovered an improvised explosive device while setting up a vehicle checkpoint at night. He warned his fellow Marines to stay away from the danger zone, but was unable to find safety for himself once the IED blew up. Deeds suffered severe injuries due to shrapnel and has undergone 40 surgeries since the incident.
Deeds was awarded a Purple Heart, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Combat Action Ribbon and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
On behalf of everyone at FOX Sports, we want to thank Samuel Deeds and all our servicemen and women for protecting our freedom. You will always be our heroes.
