News: Newman has been ruled ineligible for a front row start in the Great American Race by NASCAR because of the resulting engine change after Saturday's blown engine during practice, NBC Sports reports.
Impact: Newman not only has to start from the rear of the field in this week's qualifying race, but he has also been ruled ineligible to win the pole or outside pole in Sunday's qualifying session. The development is a setback and takes the importance out of Sunday's qualifying session for the RCR veteran. Newman will at least get some good practice laps in to fine tune the new engine for week's remaining races.

News: Newman's No. 31 Chevrolet lost an engine during second practice for the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday.
Impact: The veteran's RCR Chevy started trailing smoke 20 minutes into the session and the problem was terminal for the car's power plant. Newman retired to the garage area so the team cold replace engines. He will have to start from the rear of the field in his Budweiser Duel qualifying race next week.

News: WIX Filters announced the extension of its partnership with Richard Childress Racing. The partnership includes primary branding of select events with the No. 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series program with driver Newman, rcrracing.com reports.
Impact: After Newman's near-brush with a championship last season, it was likely an easy call for the WIX people to re-up with Newman and Richard Childress Racing. They will be primary sponsor on the No. 31 car in the April Bristol race, and the WIX branding will be on all RCR teams as they continue to support this camp with filter technology and technical support.
