Michael McDowell and Leavine Family Racing welcomed United States Air Force TSgt. Allan Habel to the No. 95 team this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Habel, crew chief for the USAF Thunderbirds, has been shadowing McDowell’s crew chief, Todd Parrott leading up to Sunday’s Kobalt 400.
“Being a crew chief myself, it is very exciting to be able to work alongside the team in the garage and have a huge opportunity to learn a lot of things from all of them,” Habel said.
Habel has a plethora of responsibilities involving the mechanics of the Thunderbird aircrafts, just as a NASCAR crew chief does with their race cars.
“The best aspect about my current job is that I get to be the voice for everyone in the section and make sure that they are taken care of with whatever they need,” he said. “Being able to look after and personally take care of everyone, just as a NASCAR crew chief does, is very rewarding, and I really enjoy doing it every day.”
Take a look at Habel’s experience throughout the weekend at Las Vegas:
TSgt. Habel was very hands on throughout the weekend, as he's shown here jacking up McDowell's No. 95 in the Neon Garage.
Habel even took part in a radio interview during a break from shadowing the team.
