And that means it’s not too early to start talking odds for the Great American Race. Here’s how VegasInsider.com handicaps the top-20 picks to win the Daytona 500. NASCAR NASCAR via Getty Images 20. Trevor Bayne, 50-1 Bayne won the 2011 Daytona 500 as a rookie, one day after he turned 20. He hasn’t won a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. NASCAR NASCAR via Getty Images 20. Ryan Newman, 50-1 In 2008, Newman won the Daytona 500 with a last-lap push from then-Team Penske teammate Kurt Busch. Getty Images for NASCAR Robert Laberge 20. Ryan Blaney, 50-1 The Wood Brothers field some of the fastest restrictor-plate cars around and Blaney is good at plate tracks. 20. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., 50-1 Still looking for his first Cup race win, Stenhouse has to hope Roush Fenway Racing has found more speed this year. Getty Images Getty Images 20. Paul Menard, 50-1 For his career, Menard’s only victory came in the Brickyard 400 in 2011. Erik Jones, 35-1 Although he has plenty of talent, Jones will be a rookie with a start-up second car from Furniture Row Racing. Getty Images Getty Images 17. Austin Dillon, 35-1 A past Daytona 500 pole winner, Dillon could be someone to keep an eye on this time around. Getty Images Getty Images 15. Kasey Kahne, 30-1 For his entire Cup career, Kahne is 0-52 on restrictor-plate tracks. NASCAR NASCAR via Getty Images 15. Jamie McMurray, 30-1 Actually, four of McMurray’s seven Cup wins have come in restrictor-plate races, including the 2010 Daytona 500. He’s a legitimate threat to win. © F. Peirce Williams F.Peirce Williams 13. Kurt Busch, 25-1 As good as Busch is — and he’s darned good — he’s 0-63 at restrictor-plate tracks for his career. 13. Daniel Suarez, 25-1 With Carl Edwards' sudden departure, Suarez has big shoes to fill, but a fast car to drive. 1. Kyle Larson, 20-1 In 12 starts, Larson has never finished better than sixth at a restrictor-plate track. Getty Images Jared C. Tilton 11. Clint Bowyer, 20-1 You better believe Bowyer is thrilled to have moved to Stewart-Haas Racing this year. FOXSports.com Chase Wilhelm 10. Chase Elliott, 15-1 Last year, Elliott won the pole as a rookie but crashed out early. He’ll be looking to do a lot better this year. Getty Images Getty Images 6. Matt Kenseth, 12-1 A two-time Daytona 500 winner, Kenseth excels at restrictor-plate tracks and he nearly won a third 500 here last year. 6. Kyle Busch, 12-1 Hard to believe, but Busch has never won the 500, although he finished a close third last year behind Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. Getty Images Getty Images 6. Joey Logano, 12-1 The 2015 Daytona 500 winner will give Team Penske a good shot at winning the Great American Race. 6. Denny Hamlin, 12-1 The last Daytona 500 winner to repeat the next year was Sterling Marlin in 1994-95. That doesn’t bode well for Hamlin. Getty Images Jerry Markland 3. Martin Truex, 10-1 Last year, Truex finished second, just 0.010 seconds behind winner Denny Hamlin. NASCAR NASCAR via Getty Images 3. Kevin Harvick, 10-1 Fast virtually everywhere he goes, the 2014 Cup champion and 2007 Daytona 500 winner is one of the favorites to win again this year. Copyright The Associated Press. Brad Keselowski, 8-1 One of the sport’s best restrictor-plate races, Keselowski has five victories in 21 starts at Daytona and Talladega. Peter Casey Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports 1. Dale Earnhardt Jr., 5-1 Given that he hasn’t raced since last July, these might be optimistic odds for Earnhardt, although he is a sensational restrictor-plate racer.
