News: Stewart finished 41st in the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday night. Impact: It was a rough night in Stewart's return to action after a three-race layoff. He looked good early and raced with aggressiveness and made his bid to be a Top-10 finisher at Atlanta. However, a run-in with Kyle Busch would send the No. 14 Chevrolet hard into the outside wall and pancake the right side. Stewart would get repairs in the pits and return to action. However, he would cut down a tire late and hit the wall much harder. The damage was terminal and the car would be retired for the night. It was just Stewart's second DNF of the season.(RotoWire, )

News: The Ontario County (N.Y.) Police Department is in the final stages of its investigation into the death of Kevin Ward Jr., but there is no timetable yet for its completion, a department spokesperson told Monday morning. Impact: The investigation is drawing to a close, but a spokesman stopped short of putting a timetable on when it would be complete and when the findings would be made public. Stewart has missed the last three races since the death of Ward at a New York dirt track a few weeks ago. He could potentially face criminal charges, depending on what this investigation finds. There's no word at present regarding Stewart's status for this weekend's race at Atlanta, but it would be unlikely that he will race given the ongoing investigation and his absence from the last three events.(RotoWire, )

He will be replaced by Jeff Burton in the No. 14 again this weekend.(RotoWire, )

News: Stewart appears on the entry list for this Saturday's IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Impact: Smoke is entered for this weekend's night race at the Bristol short track, but that's not official confirmation that he'll compete. He withdrew late last week from the Michigan race after initially appearing on that entry list. Stewart Haas Racing is expected to announce later in the week if Smoke will truly compete in the No. 14 Chevrolet at Bristol Motor Speedway.(RotoWire, )
