News: Newman finished third in the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway Sunday afternoon. Impact: The Richard Childress Racing veteran continued his assault of consistency throughout this Chase by turning in a great run at Martinsville. Newman didn't lead any laps but he raced in and out of the Top 10 most of the day. When the closing laps were slowed by multiple cautions, he found himself in great track position and able to scramble for the win in the final 5 laps. A win wasn't in the cards, but Newman did walk away with his fourth Top-5 finish of the season. He moves into second-place in the championship standings after Martinsville Speedway.(RotoWire, )

News: After further evaluation, Newman's No. 31 car has cleared post-race inspection from Talladega. Race damage caused the rear to be too low, NASCAR PR reports. Impact: This is certainly good news for Newman and his Richard Childress Racing team. Newman's car was hit hard from behind during the melee at Talladega and it caused the car to measure too low during post-race inspection. Further evaluation has cleared the veteran driver and team of any penalties going forward. Newman should be set for a good performance this weekend as the Chase continues at Martinsville Speedway.(RotoWire, )

News: Newman's No. 31 Chevrolet failed post-race inspection after found being too low after the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR PR reports. Impact: Newman's car was found too low on both sides after Sunday's GEICO 500. The car has been taken back to NASCAR's R&D center in North Carolina for further inspection. The RCR veteran will likely face fines and penalties Tuesday from the sanctioning body. Hopefully, those points penalties won't boot Newman from the eight-driver field of the Chase that continues at Martinsville this week.(RotoWire, )

News: Newman finished fifth in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday afternoon. Impact: Newman nearly succeeded in making his No. 31 Chevrolet four-lanes wide in the closing laps. He fended off more than one challenge from Jimmie Johnson, and looked like he had the race sewn up as he held Brad Keselowski at bay. However, the Richard Childress Racing veteran ran out of laps and time as Keselowski got by him on the second green-white-checkered finish attempt. Newman would fall to fifth as the pack crossed the finish line for the final time. He climbs two spots to second-place overall in the standings and secures a spot in the Eliminator round of the Chase next week at Martinsville.(RotoWire, )
