News: Hendrick Motorsports and Kahne have agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep the driver with the No. 5 Chevy SS team through the end of the 2018 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, hendrickmotorsports.com reports. Impact: This puts to bed the speculation that Chase Elliott is being prepared to take over the No. 5 Chevrolet. If Elliott is to be promoted anytime in the next 3 years, it will have to be another Hendrick team. Kahne has struggled with inconsistencies in performance over the last two years, but he's managed to be a Chase participant in the last two seasons. This 3-year extension is a major vote of confidence in Kahne, and he'll have a new crew chief to help right the ship in 2015.(RotoWire, )

News: In preparation for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and revised rules that affect race car development and on-track testing, Hendrick Motorsports has named Kenny Francis to the new position of vehicle technical director and Keith Rodden as crew chief of the No. 5 Chevy SS team of driver Kahne, hendrickmotorsports.com reports. Impact: Francis' promotion will make way for Rodden to take over crew chief responsibilities for Kahne's No. 5 team. This move brings Rodden back to Hendrick Motorsports and reunites him with the driver and team where he worked as lead engineer for the team. Kahne will look forward to a change in scenery after struggling through a very inconsistent 2014 season.(RotoWire, )
