News: Johnson finished fourth in the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night. Impact: Johnson managed to stay under the radar as far as the bent fenders and wrecks were concerned. He kept the No. 48 Chevrolet wrinkle-free for 500 laps in the Bristol mixing bowl. Those smart moves and good pit strategy propelled him to a strong Top-5 finish in the Irwin Tools Night Race. It was the Hendrick Motorsports star's seventh Top 5 of the season and eighth-career Top 5 at the Bristol short track. Johnson climbs one spot to sixth-place in the Chase for the Cup standings.(RotoWire, )

News: Johnson finished ninth in the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway Sunday afternoon. Impact: In one of the oddest mechanical failures we've seen in some time, Johnson and the No. 48 team recovered from a broken shifter Sunday at the Michigan oval. The shifter snapped while Johnson was attempting to change gears and he lost a lap in the pits while making repairs. Some good ingenuity and even some in-car repair by Johnson himself got the shifter working again and back in the race. He would rally to claim his 13th Top 10 of the season. Johnson snapped a five-race Top-10 drought and remains seventh overall in the driver point standings.(RotoWire, )
