News: Crew chief Alan Gustafson said his mistake late in Sunday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway cost Gordon a chance to win, mrn.com reports. Impact: A decision not to pit under caution with 19 laps to go, saw most of the lead lap cars pit for fresh rubber. Gordon maintained the lead but was at a big disadvantage later when more cautions stretched out the race. Gustafson's decision to pit for tires on the final caution put Gordon too far back in traffic to recover for the win. It was a costly mistake and one the team will be stewing over during the short off-season.(RotoWire, )

News: Gordon finished 10th in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday afternoon. Impact: Gordon dominated the day at the South Florida oval. He led 161 laps and had the Chase contenders nipping at his heels the entire way. Some late pit stops created some pit strategy and decision-making that didn't turn out so well for the No. 24 team. Gordon would take 4 tires on the final pit stop and lose lots of track position. The Hendrick Motorsports star would settle for a Top 10 on an afternoon when he should have been celebrating in victory lane. Gordon finishes sixth in the final Chase for the Cup standings and looks to next season for yet another attempt at championship number five.(RotoWire, )

News: Gordon won the pole for the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway Friday afternoon. He turned a fast lap of 180.747 mph. Impact: The Hendrick Motorsports star beat out Kurt Busch in the final round of knockout qualifying to win the pole position at HMS. Gordon claimed his first-career pole at the South Florida oval and third of the season. He should challenge for the win in Sunday's 400-mile race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.(RotoWire, )

News: Gordon finished second in the Quicken Loans Race for the Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Raceway Sunday afternoon. Impact: Gordon gave it an all-out effort at Phoenix International Raceway. He didn't have the speed to get around the powerful No. 4 Chevrolet, but he didn't lose touch with race-winner Kevin Harvick. Unfortunately, the runner-up finish wasn't enough and Gordon was eliminated by Ryan Newman by a single point in the Chase for the Cup standings. Considering the great season Gordon has had, it's a bitter pill to swallow that he won't be racing for the championship next Sunday at Homestead.(RotoWire, )

News: Hendrick Motorsports driver Gordon will be behind the wheel of the fiery No. 24 Axalta Radiant Red Chevy this week at Phoenix, Hendrick Motorsports PR reports. Impact: Gordon's car will be as fiery as his demeanor was last week at Fort Worth for this weekend's Phoenix race. The special paint scheme comes at a good time for the No. 24 team. Gordon either needs to win or race his way into the final cut of the Chase by points at the Arizona oval. His recent record at this track has been strong, so we expect to see that blazing-red Chevrolet racing up front this Sunday afternoon.(RotoWire, )

News: Kenny Francis, crew chief of the No. 5 team, and Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 24 team, have each been fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation through the completion of the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship points races as a result of the altercation on pit road last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR PR reports. Impact: Fortunately, Gordon was not fined or docked any points for his involvement in the fight with Brad Keselowski following the AAA Texas 500. Gustafson, however, will be fined $50,000 and placed on probation through the start of next season. Also, a couple crew members from the No. 24 team have been fined for their actions in the fracas. Gordon will have to put this nasty incident behind him and focus on advancing in the Chase this weekend at Phoenix.(RotoWire, )
