MAY 07, 2014 1:07p ET
A 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT bought new by Rolling Stones guitarist, singer and songwriter Keith Richards, is now up for auction.
The car, designed by Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredino, is powered by a 2.4 liter V6 engine that departed from traditional Ferrari design by being a mid-engined car. Consequently, the car got favorable reviews on its handling side and became a popular collector car throughout the 1970s.
Indeed when Keith Richards, who bought this car new in February 1972, returned to England from the United States in 1975, he made sure to bring the car with him and get it registered to his address in London.
Richards kept the car until 1986, and it has spent an extended period in a Japanese collection since. It is accompanied by a letter from Rolling Stones manager Alan Dunn confirming Richards' ownership, and the mileage up to April 1986... 25,000 miles. Today, it has 28,000.
