Historic Motorsports Festival celebrates Can-Am at Sonoma Raceway
MAY 07, 2014 2:57p ET
The Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival will be celebrating the early years of the iconic SCCA Can-Am Series this year.
The event will be held at Sonoma Raceway on May 17-18 with a focus on the Shadow race car that competed from 1970-194.
Cars in this series, which encouraged technological development and was lax on restrictions, were amongst the first race cars to sport wings, effective turbocharging, ground-effect aerodynamics and aerospace materials such as titanium.
Former and current drivers and owners of the Shadow car will be honored guests at the event, and 350 vintage and historic cars, including the Shadow, are expected to take to the famous Sonoma road course circuit during the weekend, with cars ranging from a 1911 National 40 to a 1991 Roush Mustang.
