Elio de Angelis took his first career F1 win by 0.05 seconds over Keke Rosberg at the 1982 Austrian GP. Rosberg had hunted down de Angelis in the closing laps but was unable to pass him for his first win. However, Rosberg would emerge victorious at the next round at Dijon-Prenois.
5. 1986 Spanish GP
After losing the lead to Ayrton Senna in the closing stages of the 1986 Spanish GP, Nigel Mansell pitted for a fresh set of tires so that he could run Senna down and try and pass him again. The plan mostly worked, but Mansell was unable to get by, and finished just 0.014 seconds short.
4. 1975 Dutch GP
James Hunt took his first F1 victory by just over a second ahead of Niki Lauda at the 1975 Dutch GP. Hunt had been the first to switch to slicks in the drying conditions, giving him the lead, but Lauda had fresher tires and a faster car by the end of the race. However, Hunt was able to hold on for the victory.
3. 1981 Spanish GP
Gilles Villeneuve's drive at the 1981 Spanish GP was extra special as he had to hold off a whole train of cars to take home the win. Jacques Laffite, John Watson, Carlos Retemann and Elio de Angelis all finished within 1.24 seconds of the French-Canadian, whose car was not quite as quick in the corners as those of his competitors.
2. 2005 San Marino GP
Michael Schumacher had just won the last five World Championship titles in a row heading into the 2005 season, and so it was fresh to see a new face challenging the German driver for F1 supremecy. Schumacher may have had the quicker car at the end of the 2005 San Marino GP, but it was Fernando Alonso who was in front and able to hold on for victory.
1. 1992 Monaco GP
Nigel Mansell and Williams were the dominant force of the 1992 season but, when Mansell had to pit with a loose wheel in the closing stages of the Monaco GP, it set up for a thrilling finish between himself and McLaren's Ayrton Senna. Senna was now in front but Mansell was hot on his heels with fresher tires and a faster car. However, Mansell could not find a way by and it was Senna who took the win.
