The 2017 Indianapolis 500 took place on Sunday at the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was the 101st running of the event.
For many returning but also new and international fans, eyes were on F1 champion Fernando Alonso who impressed in his debut until his engine broke with 21 laps to go.
While Takuma Sato made history by becoming the first Japanese racing driver to win the Indianapolis 500, the highlight of the race was a scary crash for Scott Dixon on Lap 53 who flipped over in Turn 2. Fortunately he was OK.
