News: Either Petit or Ryan Vogelsong will start Thursday's game against the Dodgers, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact: The Giants are opting against pushing up Chris Heston and those behind him by a day despite Monday's off day. If Petit pitches well, he could stick in the rotation temporarily while Jake Peavy and Matt Cain are on the DL.
Rotowire: Apr 6 / 10:56p ET
News: Petit will not be considered for Wednesday's start in place of Matt Cain, Amy Gutierrez reported on the Giants broadcast Monday night.
Impact: The Giants' rotation is already a mess. Jake Peavy will not start Tuesday night due to his back issues but should be available over the weekend, Matt Cain will probably miss a couple of weeks and definitely miss Wednesday's start, and Tim Lincecum dealt with back problems in spring training. Petit may not be considered an option for starting now, but it probably isn't off the table for later this season.
Rotowire: Mar 19 / 4:41p ET
News: Petit will be stretched out in case Tim Lincecum (back) isn't ready to pitch at the beginning of the season, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact: Bochy indicated earlier in spring training that Lincecum will begin the season in the rotation, with both Petit and Ryan Vogelsong serving in the bullpen. If the back injury sidelines Lincecum, however, one of the two would likely move into the rotation, which would add a little extra value.
