News: The Blue Jays claimed Smoak off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact: Smoak, the centerpiece of the return package from the Rangers for Cliff Lee in 2010, hit just .224/.309/.380 with 66 homers in parts of five seasons with the Mariners. He posted a career-low .614 OPS in 80 games with the big club in 2014, but he'll at least provide Toronto with some depth and could make a run at semi-regular playing time, depending on what the Blue Jays do with Adam Lind this offseason.

News: The Royals designated Hendriks for assignment Friday.
Impact: A spot on the 40-man roster had to be freed up with Moises Sierra coming aboard via a waiver claim from the White Sox, and Hendriks was the casualty. The 25-year-old Hendriks struggled in nine appearances (six starts) between Toronto and Kansas City this season, posting a 5.23 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 32.2 innings, but he was much better at the Triple-A level (2.45 ERA, 0.96 WHIP).
