Eduardo Escobar - #5 - Short Stop - 5'10" - 173lbs
Thu. Aug 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Escobar is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Indians, Fox Sports North's Tyler Mason reports.
Impact: It looks to be only a scheduled day off for Escobar, who's started the past four games. The Twins will go with Danny Santana at shortstop, while Jordan Schafer slots in at center field.
News: Dozier went 1-for-3 with a walk and his 20th stolen base in Wednesday's loss to Cleveland. He becomes just the sixth Twins player to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season.
Impact: Despite his strong power-speed numbers, Dozier has been slumping lately, with .219 average in August entering Wednesday with only one home run and two stolen bases.
News: Nolasco (5-9) gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out six over over 6.2 innings, in a loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
Impact: Nolaso saw his ERA fall slightly, but it's still a staggering 5.96. He's continued to struggle since returning from the DL with nine earned runs in 12.2 innings. He has a 9:2 K:BB ratio in those two outings, so at least there's some hope he can improve over the final month of the season.
Wed. Aug 20, 2014 | STATS
News: Arcia homered for a third straight game Tuesday in a loss to Cleveland.
Impact: The 23-year-old has left the yard five times with 10 RBIs in his last seven games.
News: Suzuki is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians, Tyler Mason of FOX Sports North reports.
Impact: Suzuki's absence seems odd considering he received a day off on Monday, but perhaps manager Ron Gardenhire is just looking to preserve him for the final stanza of the season. The Twins have made it clear that Suzuki is a player they value by virtue of the two-year contract extension he received in July, so he could receive some time off down the stretch as the team looks to give some of their less experienced catchers (such as Josmil Pinto) some at-bats.
News: Perkins pitched a perfect ninth inning Tuesday against the Indians, recording one strikeout in a non-save situation.
Impact: With the Twins down 7-5, Perkins was called upon to get in some work. Perkins continues to have a great season and now sports a 2.53 ERA., 1.09 WHIP and stellar 63:9 K:BB ratio in 53.1 innings.
News: Arcia clubbed his 13th home run of the year Tuesday against the Indians, finishing 1-for-4 at the dish with three RBI.
Impact: Arcia has now homered in three straight games and is 9-for-37 in his last 10 games with five home runs and 11 RBI. His season totals (.230/.305/.444 in 252 at-bats) don't paint the whole picture, as Arcia has had some injury concerns to overcome. Now that he is healthy, Arcia is starting to show us what he finally may be capable of doing.
News: Gibson pitched just 5.1 innings Tuesday against the Indians, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four batters in the no-decision.
Impact: All year long Gibson has battled inconsistency, occasionally twirling gems, but many times tossing in some duds. Gibson now has a 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a mediocre 78:40 K:BB ratio in 139.1 innings this year. His next start is scheduled for Sunday at home against the Tigers.
Tue. Aug 19, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Gibson gave up five runs over 5.1 innings with four strikeouts and one walk in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland.
Impact: Gibson was staked to a five-run lead in the first inning and couldn't deliver. He continued a pattern of either being great or terrible in his starts. He's 1-6 with a 12.68 ERA when he goes less than five innings (24 starts) and 10-3 with a 1.88 ERA when he goes more than five innings (16 starts).
News: Swarzak (ankle) gave up two runs over 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and no walks in Monday's loss to Kansas City.
Impact: It was Swarzak's first outing since suffering a sprained right ankle Tuesday and it didn't appear to be an issue.
Mike Pelfrey - #37 - Pitcher - 6'7" - 249lbs
News: Pelfrey (elbow) has ruled out returning to the Twins before the end of the season, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Pelfrey has started up his throwing program and has recently begun throwing from 105 feet, but the Twins have already told him they have no intentions of rushing him back to the major league roster over the final few weeks of the season. Instead, Pelfrey will slowly work his way up to throwing from 150 feet, before tossing bullpen sessions every third day prior to the end of the season. By proceeding slowly with Pelfrey's recovery, the Twins are hopeful they can salvage some value from the right-hander as he enters the final season of his two-year, $11 million contract in 2015.
News: Schafer isn't in the lineup Monday in Kansas City, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: An everyday player, Schafer has recorded hits in five of the past eight contests, batting .333 (7-for-21) with one RBI, four runs, four steals, and three walks versus three strikeouts. He'll yield center field to Danny Santana, while Eduardo Escobar covers shortstop.
News: Suzuki is out of the lineup Monday in Kansas City, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Suzuki has been hammering the ball over his last six appearances, batting .296 (8-for-27) with one homer, three doubles, three RBI, four runs, and two walks versus two strikeouts. In his stead, Eric Fryer is manning the backstop and batting eighth in the order.
News: Mauer was 1-for-2 with a solo homer, two runs scored and two walks in Sunday's home loss to Kansas City.
Impact: It hasn't taken long for Mauer to find his groove at the plate again following his return from the disabled list on Aug. 10. He's hit .333 (7-for-21) with two homers, two doubles, three RBI and five walks in six games since he was activated.
News: Vargas was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Royals.
Impact: Vargas, who owns a .317/.364/.500 slash line since getting called up on July 31, belted his third home run of the season off Jeremy Guthrie in the fifth inning. Locked into a regular role and batting fourth in the order for the Twins, Vargas has quickly become a legitimate fantasy factor.
News: Milone lasted only 1.1 innings in Sunday's loss to Kansas City, giving up four hits and seven runs (six earned) while recording two walks and one strikeout.
Impact: Milone was solid in his Twins debut against Houston, but it all went wrong Sunday. After getting through the first inning unscathed, Milone ran into trouble in the second frame and was eventually relieved by Samuel Deduno. The southpaw will try to bounce back at home against Detroit on Friday.
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Plouffe is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals, LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Plouffe will get the day off Sunday following an 0-for-4 night at the plate Saturday. Eduardo Escobar will start at third base and bat eighth for the Twins.
Chris Herrmann - #12 - Right Field - 6'0" - 198lbs
Aug 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Herrmann is just 4-for-24 since returning from the DL for an injured thumb at Triple-A Rochester.
Impact: Despite his slump at the plate, he's a candidate to be called up to the majors as a third catcher in September.
Sat. Aug 16, 2014 | STATS
News: Suzuki went 3 for 3 with a double in Friday's 6-5 loss to Kansas City.
Impact: Suzuki is 4 for 4 with a walk in his last five plate appearances at home.
News: Hughes gave up one run over 7.1 innings with six strikeouts and no walks to improve to 13-8 in Saturday's win over the Royals.
Impact: After struggling a bit in July (5.71 ERA), Hughes has been on fire lately. He's 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA and 22:3 K:BB in 20.1 innings in his last three starts.
News: Swarzak (ankle) was able to run off the mound to cover first base and was cleared to play Friday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: When he first sprained his ankle Tuesday, it was thought he'd land on the DL, but now it looks like he could be back on the mound shortly.
Eduardo Escobar - #5 - Short Stop - 5'10" - 173lbs
News: Escobar isn't in the lineup Saturday versus the Royals, LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Since his last absence on Aug. 8, Escobar has failed to gather a hit on just one occasion, reeling off a .333 average (7-for-21) with five doubles and three runs scored. He'll yield shortstop to Danny Santana, who is leading off.
News: Nolasco (5-8) gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings on Friday facing the Royals as he took the loss.
Impact: The recent activation for Nolasco off the DL means that he'll at least get another start or two to prove himself. Nolasco has seen his ERA balloon to 5.99 on the year.
News: Nolasco was activated from the disabled list and confirmed as the starter Friday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
Impact: Nolasco will rejoin the rotation Friday following two rehab starts with Low-A Cedar Rapids. He allowed three runs over 9.1 innings between the starts, and pitched 5.2 innings in his most recent outing. Nolasco likely won't be on a strict pitch count, but it wouldn't be surprising if the staff has a shorter leash for him in his first outing back from the disabled list.
News: Manager Ron Gardenhire has given Schafer the green light to steal bases at all times, unless he's specifically told not to go, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Schafer has six stolen bases in eight games with the Twins and it sounds like he'll remain aggressive with Gardenhire's blessing.
Thu. Aug 14, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Perkins picked up his 30th save of the season Wednesday with a perfect ninth inning in a 3-1 win over the Astros.
Impact: Though something of a rarity as a left-handed closer, Perkins' slight reverse splits have allowed him to find success in the role during his two-plus seasons on the job. his results this year have been quite comparable to last year's, as he's got a 2.63 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 over 51.1 innings.
Thu. Aug 14, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Gibson held the Astros to one run over 7.2 innings Wednesday, picking up his 11th victory of the season.
Impact: Manager Ron Gardenhire likely would have been willing to give Gibson a shot at spinning a complete game, but a pair of lightly hit singles took a shutout off the table and brought his pitch count over 100. That being said, Gibson still delivered one of his more impressive outings of the season, pushing his season ERA below 4.00 in the process. Gibson's poor strikeout rate (4.9 K/9 IP) limits his utility in the fantasy game, but he's been able to yield acceptable results due to a relatively low walk rate (2.62 BB/9) and a 53.8 percent ground-ball rate -- good for 13th-best among qualifying starters.
Byron Buxton - #70 - Center Field -
Wed. Aug 13, 2014 | STATS
News: The Minnesota Twins are relieved that prized center field prospect Byron Buxton only has a concussion following a violent outfield collision with a teammate.
Impact: In Buxton's first game for Double-A New Britain on Wednesday, Buxton suffered a head injury bad enough to knock him unconscious for about 10 minutes. He ran into right fielder Mike Kvasnicka after both of them ran full speed for a fly ball in the fifth inning.
News: Vargas went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Astros.
Impact: The 24-year-old rookie raised his batting average to an even .300 with the two-hit performance.
News: Mauer went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Astros.
Impact: Mauer's third home run of the season came in the sixth inning off Astros' lefty Brett Oberholtzer. He also extended his hitting streak to 15 games for the Twins.
News: X-rays on Swarzak's right ankle were returned negative, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Although no structural damage was found in the ankle, Swarzak may still require a DL stint after hurting himself while fielding a ball Tuesday. The Twins will need to clear a roster spot for Ricky Nolasco (elbow) prior to Friday's game.
Wed. Aug 13, 2014 | STATS
News: Arcia hit two home runs in Tuesday's loss to Houston.
Impact: It was Arcia's first multi-homer game. He's been a bit more reliable at the plate lately, batting .270 in his last 25 games. He has, however, struck out 30 times in that span.
News: Swarzak injured his right ankle while fielding a ball Tuesday and is likely to be placed on the DL, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: He sprained his ankle and it was in a walking boot Wednesday. He'll likely be placed on the DL when Ricky Nolasco is activated from the DL and returns to start Friday.
News: Schafer is out of the lineup Wednesday in Houston, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Since he was claimed off waivers on Aug. 3, Schafer has started seven of eight games in the corner outfield for the Twins, batting .273/.333/.364 with one RBI, three runs scored, and six stolen bases in 22 at-bats. In his stead, Eduardo Nunez will cover left field and hit sixth in the order.
News: Arcia smacked two home runs (ninth and 10th of the year) Tuesday, as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.
Impact: After being sidelined three games with a back injury that threatened to land him on the DL, Arcia looked healthy at the dish Tuesday. Despite the back issues, Arcia is playing well lately and is 9-for-28 with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBI in August.
News: Vargas clubbed his second home run of the year Tuesday, a ninth-inning solo shot off Astros' pitcher Mike Foltynewicz.
Impact: Although he is just 2-for-13 in his last three games, Vargas has still been impressive in his first 11 games with the Twins. Through 46 at-bats, Vargas has a solid .283/.340/.435 slash line while receiving regular playing time at DH.
Tue. Aug 12, 2014 | STATS
News: Santana continued his recent hot streak, going 3 for 5 in Monday's 4-2 win at Houston.
Impact: The rookie is 8 for 15 over his last three games and has gone 16 for 33 in his last seven on the road.
News: Arcia (back) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: A lower back injury threatened to push Arcia to the DL, but his discomfort has subsided at least enough to where he can return to the lineup Tuesday. Arcia was beginning to show some life at the plate before missing three games with the ailment, collecting seven hits, including a homer and two doubles, in his first 24 at-bats of August.
News: Mauer went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI Monday in a 4-3 win over the Astros in his return from the disabled list.
Impact: Mauer had a heroic return, unbreaking a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth with an RBI single. The first baseman, who has been out since June 1, is hitting .274/.346/.358 with two home runs in 307 at-bats this season.
News: Milone allowed two runs in his debut for the Twins on Monday. He gave up eight hits while walking three and striking out five over six innings in no decision against the Astros.
Impact: Milone wasn't completely sharp, admitting to feeling some nerves early. Eleven batters reached base on the lefty, but he danced out of trouble for the most part. Milone is 6-3 with 3.52 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 66:29 K:BB ratio in 102.1 innings on the year. He will get his first start in front of the Minnesota fans Sunday versus the Royals.
Mon. Aug 11, 2014 | STATS
News: Hughes pitched well at Oakland on Sunday, allowing one run and four hits over seven innings in a 6-1 win.
Impact: Hughes is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA with 16 strikeouts in two August starts.
Mon. Aug 11, 2014 | STATS
News: Santana went 3 for 5 and scored twice in Sunday's 6-1 win at Oakland.
Impact: Santana appears to be on a roll, going 5 for 10 over his last two contests.
News: Updating a previous report, Parmelee is in fact in the lineup Monday, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Impact: Parmelee was scheduled to receive Monday off, but shortly before game time, the Twins dealt Josh Willingham to the Royals, opening up a lineup spot. With Willingham out of the picture, Parmelee figures to see close to regular duty the rest of the way for the Twins.
News: Parmelee is out of the lineup Monday vs. the Astros, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: With Joe Mauer returning from the DL on Monday, it looks like Parmelee, and not Kennys Vargas, might be the hitter that gets squeezed out of the lineup. There is still a chance, however, that right fielder Oswaldo Arcia (back) may require a stay on the DL, which would re-open the door for playing time for Parmelee if that were to occur.
News: Plouffe (foot) is back in the lineup Monday in Houston, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Plouffe was raking in August (.394/.487/.545 with one homer, nine RBI, and six runs in 33 at-bats) prior to fouling a pitch off his left foot Saturday, resulting in an absence Sunday. X-rays were returned negative, though, and he'll assume his regular role at third base and bat seventh in the order.
Casey Fien - #50 - Pitcher - 6'2" - 205lbs
News: Fien threw a scoreless inning for his 22nd hold in Sunday's win over Oakland.
Impact: Fien is having another solid season in Minnesota's setup corps with a 3.27 ERA and 41:8 K:BB ratio in 50.1 innings. He continues to be dominant against right-handed batters with a .576 OPS allowed against righties.
News: Hughes gave up one run over seven innings with seven strikeouts and one walk to improve to 12-8 in Sunday's win over Oakland.
Impact: After struggling a bit in July (5.71 ERA), Hughes has been stellar in August by allowing just two runs in 13 innings with a 16:2 K:BB ratio.
News: Nolasco (elbow) gave up three runs over 5.2 innings Sunday for Low-A Cedar Rapids. He's expected to be activated from the DL and start Friday against Kansas City, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: Nolasco gave up three runs in 9.1 innings with a 8:1 K:BB ratio in two starts for Cedar Rapids. He looks healthy heading into his next start.
News: Mauer (oblique) will be activated from the disabled list Monday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
Impact: Mauer is set to return to action after missing nearly six weeks with the oblique injury. Expect him to resume his role as the Twins' regular first baseman moving forward.
News: Arcia (back) could be placed on the disabled list Monday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
Impact: The Twins will need to open a roster spot to activate Joe Mauer on Monday, and it appears they are considering disabling Arcia instead of optioning another player. They will not make a final decision on Arcia until they see how he fares in batting practice Monday, so his status will be in limbo until then.
News: Plouffe's X-ray came back negative Sunday, leaving him day-to-day, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Impact: Plouffe was out of the lineup Sunday for the first time since July 25, which was the first indication he was injured. The foot issue likely won't force him to the disabled list however, which is good news for the Twins. He is currently listed as day-to-day, but it's unclear how long he will need to sit before returning to the lineup.
News: Mauer (oblique) will likely come off the disabled list Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Mauer went 2-for-4 in a rehab assignment with Low-A Cedar Rapids on Saturday and 6-for-15 in his four games with the team. He appears to be ready to rejoin the roster, and will look to improve on his .271 season average at the big-league level.
News: Plouffe will get an X-ray on his left foot Sunday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Plouffe apparently fouled a ball off his foot in Saturday's game, the likely reason he is out of the lineup Sunday for the first time since July 25. The team should release the results of the X-ray on Sunday or Monday.
News: Arcia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He has a lower back injury, MLB.com reports.
Impact: Arcia made a big splash when he was initially called up, but he's cooled off considerably since then. He will sit for the second straight day in favor of Jordan Schafer, who will play left field and bat ninth Sunday. It doesn't sound like the injury is a major issue, as Arcia has been able to take batting practice the last few days.
News: Plouffe is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Plouffe is hitting .394/.487/.545 in August and his last day off was July 25. Eduardo Nunez will start in his place at third and bat seventh for the Twins.
News: Mauer (oblique) went 2-for-4 in Saturday's game for Low-A Cedar Rapids. He's 6-for-15 in four games during his rehab assignment.
Impact: Mauer should be activated from the 15-day DL before Monday's game barring a setback.
Sun. Aug 10, 2014 | STATS
News: Minnesota will call up Milone from Triple-A Rochester to start Monday at Houston after trading Kevin Correia to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Impact: Milone was acquired from the Athletics on the July 31 trade deadline after he requested to be moved following a demotion to the minors. Milone went 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over 11 starts with the A's when he was sent down July 5 following the trade for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs.
News: Dozier was 1-for-3 with a run scored, one RBI, a walk, and a stolen base in a losing cause against Oakland on Saturday night.
Impact: Dozier is only hitting .240, but his combination of power (19 homes runs) and speed (19 steals) has been a very welcome dividend for his owners.
News: Schafer got another start, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, one RBI, a walk, and a stolen base in a losing effort against Oakland on Saturday night.
Impact: Claimed just a week ago off of waivers, Schafer batted ninth but contributed across the stat sheet. He's only hitting .185 on the year but has 18 swipes, so he could be a source of cheap steals if he continues to get playing time.
News: Milone will be recalled to join the rotation after the Twins traded Kevin Correia to the Dodgers on Saturday night, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Milone, who last pitched Tuesday at Triple-A Rochester, will slot in as the Twins' starter against the Astros on Monday, rather than Sunday against Oakland as reports earlier in the week suggested.
News: Mauer (oblique) went 2-for-4 in his rehab game with Low-A Cedar Rapids on Saturday, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
Impact: The Twins are expected to activate Mauer from the disabled list Monday, which may enable him to make one more appearance for the Kernels on Sunday as he makes his final adjustments in anticipation of reprising his role as the Twins' first baseman.
News: Suzuki is out of the lineup Saturday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Suzuki will get a day of rest Saturday after two straight starts behind the plate. Eric Fryer will get the call for his major league debut and bat eighth.
News: Arcia is out of the lineup Friday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: Arcia will get a rest Saturday after a three-strikeout night at the plate Friday. He'll yield right field to Jordan Schafer, who is batting ninth for the Twins.
News: Gibson (10-9) suffered the loss on Friday against the Athletics as he gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits in five innings, while giving away five free passes.
Impact: It was a five-fecta for Gibson on Friday, which unfortunately was not a good thing for the young pitcher. The walks killed Gibson as he set the stage for Coco Crisp's bases-clearing triple. Gibson, who sees his ERA bump up to 4.13, next takes the mound on Wednesday against the Astros.
News: Parmelee went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI against the Athletics on Friday night.
Impact: While Parmelee's bat has been fairly inconsistent this season, the Twins will continue to play him most nights. Parmelee (.260/.316/.407) has the potential to be a solid corner option in 2015, but for the remainder of this season he only provides occasional production as a hitter.
News: Mauer (oblique) was 3-for-5 while playing all nine innings at first base Friday for Low-A Cedar Rapids, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact: He'll likely play another game or two for Cedar Rapids and then be activated from the DL on Monday.
Chris Colabello - #20 - Right Field - 6'4" - 218lbs
News: Colabello was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Friday's game.
Impact: With Joe Mauer set to return from the DL as early as Monday and Kennys Vargas getting extended playing time, Colabello was set to be stuck on the bench. He'll likely be back in September in a limited role.
News: Mauer (oblique) did not play Thursday, but will play Friday for Low-A Cedar Rapids, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact: He got a scheduled day off Thursday to ease him back into action. He went 1-for-6 in his first two games on his rehab assignment. If all goes well he could be activated from the DL on Monday.
Thu. Aug 7, 2014 | STATS
News: Plouffe was 2 for 4 and hit his eighth home run in a 5-4 loss to San Diego on Wednesday.
Impact: Plouffe is 11 for 20 over his last five games with six runs driven in. While he's shown promise at times, he owns a paltry OPS of .741 on the season, so don't get too excited.
News: Swarzak picked up the loss in relief Wednesday in extra innings against the Padres, giving up a homer to Seth Smith.
Impact: What's more noteworthy for the long run for the Twins is that Swarzak's appearance might have created the opportunity for Trevor May to start Saturday's game against the A's.
News: Plouffe went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Padres.
Impact: Plouffe is on fire right now, going 11-for-20 over the last five days. His homer was a wall-scraper down the left field line early in the game.
News: Schafer started in center field and batted ninth Wednesday against the Padres. He went 1-for-4 with a stolen base, his second in two days.
Impact: Schafer is a light hitter, but could be a really good source of stolen bases over the last two months if you can stomach a potentially low average with poor power.
Jared Burton - #61 - Pitcher - 6'5" - 225lbs
News: Burton threw two scoreless innings in Wednesday's game against the Padres, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.
Impact: Burton's outing was even better than the raw numbers, as he came into a two-on, no-out jam in the seventh after Brian Duensing didn't retire a batter, and escaped without allowing a run. He got a hold for his efforts, his 12th of the season.
News: Perkins suffered a rare blown save Wednesday against the Padres, allowing a run to tie the game in the ninth inning.
Impact: Perkins has just four blown saves in 32 opportunities, but has allowed more baserunners recently. "Guys have been swinging a little earlier on me, and I need to make adjustments on that," Perkins said. "They're probably not wanting to get to two strikes, and having to deal with the slider or guessing what I'm going to throw."
News: Santana recorded a season-high five hits in six at-bats, going a homer shy of a cycle in a 16-3 romp of the White Sox on Sunday.
Impact: Santana continues to enjoy a sparkling rookie season, going 17 for 46 with 11 RBIs over his last 11 contests.
News: Dozier went 2 for 6 in a 16-3 blowout of the White Sox on Sunday.
Impact: Dozier is 9 for 20 over his last five games after going 1 for 19 in his previous five.
News: Gibson earned his 10th win in a 16-3 road victory over the White Sox on Sunday.
Impact: Gibson's season continues to be an up-and-down affair. He's given up three or more runs in four of his last seven starts but has also limited opponents to two or fewer in the three other outings.
Sun. Aug 3, 2014 | STATS
News: Arcia had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in Minnesota's 8-6 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night.
Impact: Arcia, batting .222, was 2 for 16 with 10 strikeouts in his prior five games.
Sun. Aug 3, 2014 | STATS
News: Plouffe got four hits and the Minnesota Twins rallied past the Chicago White Sox 8-6 on Saturday night to end a three-game skid.
Impact: Plouffe, now batting .248, is 7 for 12 with two doubles and two RBIs in this series after going 0 for 16 in his final four games in July.
Logan Darnell - #38 - Pitcher - 6'2" - 210lbs
News: Darnell was bad in Friday fantasy action.
Impact: Darnell allowed four runs in four innings and committed an error in an awful effort.
News: Dozier was 3 for 4 with three runs scored Friday.
Impact: Dozier is 6 for 10 on the road trip.
News: Plouffe plowed through White Sox pitching Friday.
Impact: Plouffe had three hits to bust out of a 0-for-16 slide.
News: Suzuki rocked the fantasy world Friday.
Impact: Suzuki was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. He has a .768 OPS.
