Giants outfielder came excruciatingly close to robbing a home run

On Tuesday night, San Diego Padres outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. made one of the best home run-robbing catches of the season, turning a two-run bomb into a double play. San Francisco Giants right fielder Mac Williamson had a chance to do the same on Wednesday night, but his glove failed him.

Williamson had Jed Lowrie’s home run in the webbing of his glove, but upon hitting the wall, the ball fell out for a two-run homer. It doesn’t get much closer than this.

The Giants lost 7-1 anyway, so it’s not like the two runs mattered. But it would have made one heck of a highlight if Williamson could have held on.
