The San Diego Padres will interview Kim Ng for their vacant general manager job, FOX Sports 1 Insider Ken Rosenthal reports.
If hired, Ng would be the first female general manager in Major League Baseball — or in any other major pro North America sport.
Ng has served as an assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees in the past, and she has interviewed for GM positions in recent seasons. She currently serves as MLB’s senior vice president for baseball operations.
The Padres fired former general manager Josh Byrnes on June 22 following the team’s disappointing 32-43 start.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman first reported that Ng was under consideration for the Padres job.
