Brewers apologize to fan over jersey

The Milwaukee Brewers have apologized to a fan for telling her she would be ejected if she didn't turn her tricked-out Ryan Braun jersey inside out.

Many Milwaukee Brewers fans are upset with Ryan Braun these days, and rightfully so. But for Karen Eidem, her displeasure with the suspended outfielder led to an embarrassing encounter with security at a recent game at Miller Park.

According to NBC affiliate TMJ4 in Milwaukee, Eidem was at Wednesday’s game wearing a Braun jersey shirt that had been manipulated to read “Fraud” on the back, when a stadium security officer approached her saying she needed to change her clothing or leave.

Eidem opted to turn the shirt inside-out, but she wasn’t particularly happy about it, telling the station: “I mean it was obviously meant as a joke, but to put me in a position where I'm the one to be perceived as doing something wrong, that kind of bothered me.”

Eidem also took to the radio to discuss her ordeal, telling radio station WTMJ: “I actually had gotten a lot of compliments from a lot of fans, giving me the thumbs up and telling me it was creative.”

She said she looked up the Brewers code of conduct afterward, and only found that clothing that was derogatory or profane was banned from the stadium.

In response, the Brewers released a statement apologizing for the incident, saying:

“In this case, the fan absolutely should have been able to wear the jersey without any intervention by our staff. We welcome the opportunity for fans to express their opinions. The only circumstances that would warrant us intervening is if someone were to display a message or item that would be considered offensive to other fans. This is not a case where that line was crossed, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience to her. We will reach out to Ms. Eidem to invite her to another game this year as our guest.”

Eidem said she plans on taking the team up on its offer of tickets to another game, and told WTMJ that she plans on wearing her “Fraud” jersey to the game. So all is well that ends well, and though she may have been somewhat inconvenienced, at least Eidem’s Braun collection didn’t cost her $15,000.
