The Cardinals might have found another hitter without making a trade.
Rehabbing third baseman Troy Glaus played play left field and first base Saturday night for Class A Palm Beach in a move that could mean he’ll help the team later this season as an outfielder.
“They want him there and don’t want to trade him,” Glaus’ agent Mike Nicotera said. “They asked him and he said sure. He wants to play in St. Louis and help them down the stretch.”
Glaus is on his way back from shoulder surgery, but still doesn’t have the arm strength to make the from third to first. Playing outfield may be a practical way to get his bat in the Cardinals’ lineup.
Glaus hasn’t played this season, but did hit 27 home runs last year in his first season with St. Louis.
