BOSTON (AP) The Boston Red Sox are celebrating their relationship with Japan.
The Consul General of Japan in Boston, Akira Muto, presented the ballclub with six grown cherry blossom trees before Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. The trees will line the sidewalks outside the oldest major league baseball park in the United States.
The Red Sox were given another tree in 2012 to thank them for their help after the 2011 tsunami.
The U.S. national anthem was played by the Japanese Classic Orchestra AUN J. Members of the Japan Society of Boston also took part in the pregame ceremony.
