The Pirates have traded left-handers Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow to the Cubs for right-handers Kevin Hart and Jose Ascanio and infielder Josh Harrison.
Grabow satisfies the Cubs’ need for an additional left-handed reliever. Grabow has a 3.42 ERA in 45 appearances with the Pirates.
Gorzelanny has appeared in nine games and has a 5.19 ERA.
The deal gives Gorzelanny a chance to return to his native Illinois. Dave Littlefield, the Pittsburgh general manager when Gorzelanny won 14 games in 2007, is currently scouting for the Cubs and watched one of his recent starts.
The 26-year-old Hart was traded minutes after pitching Chicago to a 12-3 victory over Houston on Thursday. He is 3-1 with a 2.60 ERA in eight games, including four starts.
“It’s a little weird, a little different, definitely a first for me,” Hart said about being traded right after winning a game. “It’s one of those things. You know it’s part of the business. It’s always a possibility it’s going to happen.”
