Major League Baseball’s second update on National League All-Star voting saw the Padres’ Justin Upton move up among outfielders. Upton moved up two spots from last week and now sits at seventh. Between him and the top three outfield spots are three Giants: Nori Aoki, Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence. Upton is in a virtual tie with Pence trailing him by only 542 votes.
The Padre outfielder is tied for fifth among all NL players with a 2.3 offensive WAR. His home runs and RBIs rank among the top-10 in the NL, but what may differentiate him from the rest of the potential All-Star outfielders is his speed. His 10 stolen bases are tied for the seventh-most in the league.
