O's Cruz chugs around bases, but just misses cycle

Nelson Cruz came so close to making Baltimore Orioles history on Saturday night.
In the second game of a split doubleheader in Boston — in an eventual 7-4 O's win — Cruz had already totaled four hits when he came to the plate in the eighth inning needing a triple to become the fifth Oriole ever hit for the cycle. Cruz smacked a line drive to right-center that bounced off the Fenway Park wall.
As Red Sox right fielder Daniel Nava retrieved the ball, Cruz was chugging around the bases, heading for third. Nava hit cutoff man Stephen Drew, who hit third baseman Brock Holt as Cruz hit the dirt, head-first. It was close, but Cruz was out.
The O's dugout loved the effort. Check out their reaction in the video above, especially the sly smile on manager Buck Showalter.
After the game, Cruz spoke with FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal about bidding for the cycle.
And as for Orioles who have hit for the cycle, there are two quite expected names — Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken. But the other two? Aubrey Huff and Felix Pie.
