NY Rangers goalie to don Yankees-themed gear for stadium games

Is that the Yankees manager in a Rangers uniform?

Outdoor hockey is all the rage now.

The Detroit Red Wings just hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium on New Year’s Day. The Los Angeles Kings will play the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25. The Chicago Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field on March 1.

And the New York Rangers will play two games at Yankee Stadium this season – Jan. 26 vs. the New Jersey Devils and Jan. 29 vs. the New York Islanders.

Well get a load of this.

The goalie mask of Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist was on display in a hospitality tent at the Red Wings-Maple Leafs game on Jan. 1 … and check out the pictures of Yankee legends Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Pretty sweet, huh?

There’s also a Twitter post of Lundqvist’s pads … with Yankee pinstripes, of course.

Last but not least, check out this sweet video from NHL.com. The Rangers have a defenseman named Dan Girardi, who is not related to but happens to have the same last name as Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
