Nationals’ Jayson Werth swinging again, ‘well on road to recovery’

Jayson Werth is inching his way back to rejoining the Washington Nationals.

Manager Matt Williams gave an update of Werth’s condition on Sunday, and revealed that the outfielder, who fractured his wrist in mid-May, is swinging a bat again.

The bat Werth is swinging is a fungo bat, a lighter bat that is used to hit groundballs and fly balls, but Williams said he’d soon graduate to his usual bat once he gets comfortable swinging again.

"By all indications, he’s well on the road to recovery," Williams said.

Werth is expected to return to the team in August.
