Rosenthal: Young clears waivers
Young was scratched from Thursday’s lineup, but CSNPhilly.com reported he will sit because of a tight hamstring.
Young was traded from the Texas Rangers to the Phillies last September. Prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, he agreed to waive his no-trade clause for the Rangers, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. But the Phillies failed to receive an offer that they deemed sufficient, sources said.
In 106 games this season, Young is hitting .276/.343/.404 with eight homers and 36 RBI. He is in the final year of a five-year, $80 million contract.
Most teams put nearly all players on waivers in August as a procedural move. Sometimes it’s just to gauge interest; it isn’t always with intent to trade.
