Marlins deal Sanchez, Infante to Tigers
The Miami Marlins were built to win the World Series this year.
Monday, they all but conceded that won’t happen.
The Marlins will receive a package of prospects from the Tigers: right-handed starter Jacob Turner, catcher Rob Brantly and left-hander Brian Flynn.
Miami entered the week mired in a five-game losing streak, with a 44-51 record overall. The Marlins are 11½ games back in the National League East.
The teams will also swap compensatory draft picks, under a new provision that allows such exchanges. Detroit will get Miami’s selection after the first round of the 2013 draft, and Miami will receive the Tigers’ pick after the second round.
Sanchez will slot into the Tigers rotation, while Infante is likely to play second base. This is Infante’s second tenure with the Tigers; he played for Detroit when the team reached the 2006 World Series.
