Phillies’ Blanton heads to DL

The Phillies placed right-hander Joe Blanton on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with an elbow injury.

The severity of the right elbow ailment is unknown but the move is retroactive to Sunday, meaning the 30-year-old starting pitcher can be activated no earlier than May 9, reported.

The Phillies have recalled right-hander Vance Worley from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to pitch Friday against the Mets.

Blanton is 0-1 with a 5.92 ERA in four starts this season.
