Social media roundup: Jim Harbaugh, Oakland A’s first base coach for a day

Jim Harbaugh carried the same grit and intensity he has on the football field to the baseball diamond on Saturday.

Jim Harbaugh, former San Francisco 49ers head coach and current coach at the University of Michigan, has been spotted at Oakland A’s games in the past.

So what better way to continue his involvement with the A’s than by serving as the team’s first base coach for a spring training game? That’s what happened on Saturday in Mesa, Ariz., as Harbs suited up in the green and gold for a day of fun in the sun.

Unsurprisingly, the day was documented heavily by A’s players and beat writers, with images and videos of the afternoon lighting up Twitter.

Below, enjoy a roundup of some of the social media reactions, beginning with a look at his commitment to the role’s uniform requirements …

But don’t think he was just in it for laughs. He carried the same bulldog mentality that he has on the football field to the diamond at Hohokam Stadium …

Harbaugh also took a few minutes to talk about the steady leadership provided on a regular basis by his friend, A’s manager Bob Melvin …

Here’s Harbaugh camped out around first base, keeping a close eye on the home plate area (or the dugout, one or the other most likely).

After the A’s pulled out a walk-off win over the Angels, Harbaugh was all smiles once again … and judging by a few player tweets, they had a fun day with Coach as well …

All in all, a pretty enjoyable day for the A’s and those lucky fans that chose to take in some spring training action!
