Uecker mourns loss of 52-year-old son

Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker’s son Steve has died from complications related to San Joaquin Valley fever.

The Brewers issued a statement saying Steve Uecker passed away Friday at a hospital in Milwaukee. He was 52.

Bob Uecker called it ”a very difficult time” for his family and thanked the Brewers and the fans for their support. He also thanked the staff at Froedtert Hospital for their efforts.

Uecker was back at the ballpark Saturday and was in the dugout before the game against the St. Louis Cardinals, then went on the air to perform his usual duties as the team’s radio broadcaster. He received well wishes from several players and staff members.

Steve Uecker also is survived by his mother, Joyce, brother, Bob Jr., sisters Sue and Leann, and several nieces.

Brewers owner Mark Attanasio extended his condolences and said Bob Uecker’s loss ”is our loss, and we share his sadness today.”

San Joaquin Valley fever is caused by a fungus that can enter the body through the lungs.
