D-backs’ Ahmed off to a slow start at the plate; Hale ‘patient with it’

Although primarily valued for his defense, Nick Ahmed is off to a noticeably slow start offensively. He’s hitting .135 in 52 at-bats this season with 19 strikeouts. D-backs beat writer Steve Gilbert quotes Chip Hale on the matter:

"We just have to be patient with it," Hale said. "He knows it, he's our guy, and we just have to let him work it out.”

He started off slow last season in Triple-A — hitting .238 in April — before picking it up the next couple of months to end the season with a .312 average.

According to Gilbert, Ahmed had the following to say about it:

"Just have to stay level-headed," Ahmed said. "I lean on people that have good advice, and just stay calm and not overanalyze. Just trying to stay even keeled and go out and play.”
