The Indians have made $14.1 million qualifying offer to free agent pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.
The club had until 5 p.m. Monday to make the offer to Jimenez, who had a bounce-back season in 2013, winning 13 games. Jimenez went 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA in September, helping the Indians clinch their first playoff berth since 2007.
Jimenez has until Nov. 11 to accept the Indians’ offer. If he takes it, he would be signed for next season. If he declines it, the Indians would receive a first-round draft pick next June if Jimenez signs with another team.
The 31-year-old has expressed his gratitude for the way the Indians stuck with him while he struggled. Jimenez led the AL with 17 losses in 2012 and started poorly last season.
