The Chicago White Sox placed Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fracture of the left fourth anterior rib.
The move was retroactive to Wednesday and the right-hander will miss at least the next four to six weeks. The 32-year-old Peavy left Tuesday night’s start against Seattle after 2 1-3 innings, giving up six earned runs. Peavy felt something wrong in his ribs when he was playing catch a day before his start. Still, he thought he could pitch through the discomfort.
The White Sox recalled right-hander Deunte Heath from Triple-A Charlotte and also purchased the contract of righty Ramon Tronsco. Chicago sent down right-hander Brian Omogrosso to Charlotte. Heath pitched 5 2-3 innings earlier this season in four relief appearances earlier this season with the White Sox.
