Zambrano agrees to deal with Phillies

Big Z is back.

Right-hander Carlos Zambrano, the emotional, controversial former Cub, has agreed to a minor league contract with the Phillies.

Zambrano, who turns 32 on June 1, spent last season with the Marlins, going 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA. He reportedly agreed to terms last week with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, but never signed a contract, according to CBSSports.com.

The Phillies are looking for rotation help following the news that right-hander Roy Halladay could miss the entire season due to shoulder surgery.

Zambrano was with the Cubs from 2001 to ’11, going 125-81 with a 3.60 ERA. His stormy tenure with the club ended when he was traded to the Marlins for righty Chris Volstad on Jan. 5, 2012.
