– VANCOUVER, British Columbia – For a moment, Carli Lloyd’s hat trick in a 5-2 victory for the U.S. in the Women’s World Cup pushes aside the FIFA scandal simmering half a world away.

– ZURICH – FIFA bans the official it chose to inspect the candidates bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups for breaking ethics rules. Harold Mayne-Nicholls of Chile is barred from soccer for seven years.

– GENEVA – Plunged into crisis by a second FIFA bribery scandal in four years, the CONCACAF soccer body wants to pass sweeping new leadership rules to help rebuild.
