Valentine, Ross ejected from game against Yankees
Ross was called out by home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez with a runner on second. Ross began arguing strenuously, and he was ejected before Valentine and the other coaches could get to the plate to separate him from the umpire.
Valentine returned to the dugout, but came out before the start of the ninth and was tossed. It was the 43rd ejection of Valentine's career and his sixth this season - a record for a Red Sox player or manager. Third base coach Jerry Royster was also ejected for the same argument.
Ryan Kalish replaced Ross in right field to start the ninth.
