SYRACUSE SKYCHIEFS - Syracuse didnâ¿¿t fair to well on August 8 as they ended the week unable to score a run in their game versus Buffalo. For the year, the SkyChiefs continue to struggle having lost three straight and remain supplanted in the basement of the North Division at 50-66. Despite their continued struggles, Anton French performed well last week as he batted .393 (11-28) with eight runs scored, a home run and four RBI. Even though he registered only 18 at-bats, Guillermo Quiroz smacked three home runs and knocked in six runs for the SkyChiefs. Starter Jesus Sanchez earned a win in his only start of the week. NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHER CATS - With a 4-4 week, New Hampshire lost ground to Binghamton's huge week but remain close in the Mets rear view mirror, three games back. Maikel Jova was outstanding for the Fisher Cats in the last week, going 12-for-28 with two doubles, one homer, and six RBI. He is now batting .276 with nine home runs and 55 RBI on the season. Aaron Hill knocked in six runs and scored four more in eight games during the week. Francisco Rosario dropped both of his starts this week, as he allowed eight earned runs (four home runs) in just 5 1/3rd innings of work. Jordan DeJong faired a little better with two saves and a 1.93 ERA in three relief appearances. DUNEDIN BLUE JAYS - While the Blue Jays finished seventh in batting (.253) and fifth in runs scored (22), their major problem was on the hill. The Jays staff recorded a 5.11 ERA, fourth highest in the league and is as good a reason as any for their lackluster 2-3 record last week. For all their problems last week, they have still won six of their last nine games. Raul Tablado was the key to the Jays' attack last week, batting .389 with two homers and seven RBI. Ryan Roberts should also be given high marks for his two home runs and five RBI, although he batted only .278. Brian Reed gave Dunedin its only solid start of the week and not surprisingly, their only victory from the starters. Reed allowed just two earned runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, Neomar Flores, Justin James, Chad Pleiness and Jason Arnold all carried rather high ERAs. They were tied for third highest with most home runs allowed with five which certainly did not help the situation. The Blue Jays are nipping at the heels of the Yankees, trailing by just a half game for the West Division lead. CHARLESTON ALLEY CATS (WV) - The Alley Cats could not get over the hump that is Charleston-SC to start the week, dropping all four meetings by a total of four runs. However, they were able to bounce back and take two-of-three from Savannah. Jeremy Acey was a stud at the plate, hitting .409 with two homers and seven RBI. Eric Arnold homered and drove in six on the week. Mike MacDonald led the Alley Cats to a 5-0 win on August 6th, allowing just three hits while striking out five in seven shutout innings. Winners of the first half in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division, the Alley Cats find themselves treading water thus far in the second half, with a 21-22 record, eight games back of Hickory. AUBURN DOUBLEDAYS - The Doubledays capped off a week in which they went 5-2 and own the best record in the league at 36-11. They now lead the Pinckney Division by 13 games over second place Batavia. Auburn led the league in hitting (.292), on-base percentage (.383) and home runs (8) this week. Chip Cannon was the big reason the Doubledays had a huge week at the plate. Cannon went 8-for-26 with four home runs, nine RBI and scored eight runs. Adam Lind hit .467 with a home run and eight RBI in 30 at-bats. The best pitching performance of the week was turned in by Derek Tate in a 4-1 win over the Hudson Valley on August 7. Tate surrendered one run on four hits and struck out eight Renegades in five innings of work. PULASKI BLUE JAYS - The Blue Jays won their final two games this week and finished 4-2. They are 28-18 for the year and trail first place Greeneville by a half game. Pulaski outscored the Bluefield Orioles 33-6 in their two wins this week and scored a league-best 58 runs in their six games. Anthony Garabaldi, Tim Land and Yuber Rodriguez hit two home runs apiece while Luke Hetherington led the team with eight RBI and hit .400 in four games. Jordan Timm recorded the team's best start this week in a 15-0 win over Bluefield. Timm scattered three hits, two walks and struck out nine in seven scoreless innings. The Blue Jays start off this week with a big three-game set at second place Danville.
