(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the New York Yankees continue their AL East weekend series in the Bronx this afternoon. Set to take the mound for the Devil Rays in this tilt is Dewon Brazelton, one of the biggest surprises for the team this season. Although he has only appeared in six games, Brazelton has created excitement by going 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA. Five of those six appearances have been starts, and Tampa has put up a 4-1 record when he has pitched. Unfortunately, the only loss that Brazelton has suffered came in his last start, as he was touched for four earned runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings against Baltimore. Although the Tampa righty has not faced the Yankees this season, he is 0-1 in three career appearances against New York with a 4.97 ERA. In the second game of the series on Friday, the Devil Rays were held scoreless in the late innings en route to a 5-4 defeat. Jose Cruz Jr. and Robert Fick both homered off Vazquez, and Carl Crawford ended with three hits in the loss, Tampa's fifth in seven games. Tampa Bay had been 8-2 versus first-place teams during a 32-13 stretch before losing the first two games of this series. The Devil Rays, who are in the midst of an 11-game road trip, are 19-25 outside Tropicana Field this season. New York has won seven of the 10 matchups with Tampa this season and has taken 16 of the last 20 in the series.
