Source: Giants close to deal with DeRosa

The Giants are expected to use DeRosa at third base and also as a super-utility man who could fill in at multiple positions.
The Giants, who boast one of the best rotations in Baseball, have been looking to add offense this offseason. However, one source told FOXSports.com last week that San Francisco believed top free agents Matt Holliday and Jason Bay would receive bigger offers than the Giants were willing to give.
As first reported by FOXSports.com last week, the Giants are also close on a one-year deal with Juan Uribe. Uribe will serve as a pure utility man, giving San Francisco a very versatile roster. Assuming the team signs both DeRosa and Uribe, 2009 breakout player Pablo Sandoval will likely play first base.
The Giants have also spoken to second-tier free-agent outfielders such as Jermaine Dye, but it is unclear whether the DeRosa signing will affect those pursuits. Even with the addition of DeRosa, the Giants still need to add power as they face the loss of free-agent catcher Bengie Molina.
DeRosa going to the Giants will be somewhat of a blow to the Cardinals. DeRosa represented part of the backup plan for St. Louis if they failed to sign Holliday.
