Kearns, who finished 1-for-3 with a run scored, had been on the disabled list since June 2 after injuring his right thumb. He then underwent surgery to remove a bone spur, scar tissue and a lesion from the base of the thumb. The 24-year-old Lexington, Kentucky native had been shelved earlier this year because of a left forearm fracture. For the season, Kearns is hitting just .200 with three homers and 13 RBI in 28 games. In a related move, the Reds optioned pitcher Matt Belisle to Triple-A Louisville of the International League.
