RHP Evan Meek goes on DL; Pirates recall Moskos
Left-hander Daniel Moskos, the Pirates' No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, was recalled from their Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis to fill Meek's roster spot.
Meek, 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in 11 appearances, had been trying to work through what the team called right shoulder tendinitis but couldn't entirely shake free of the problem.
''He's done everything he can do to try to remedy this, but it gets to the point where he doesn't even know from day to day what he's going to have,'' Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said prior to Saturday's game at Colorado. ''Some days, he's felt good and we've seen it. Then the next day, he tries to get loose and it wasn't there. At the end of the day, it was time for him to step away and he agreed. He'll be re-evaluated and we'll go from there.''
Moskos posted solid numbers in eight games at Indianapolis, where he had one save and a 1.69 ERA.
''We like having Danny Moskos called up,'' Hurdle said. ''I felt when he felt left spring training, that somehow, someway, we would see him again. He did a very professional job while he was in Indianapolis and he gives us a second left-hander in the 'pen.''
