Oakland's Melvin ejected over suicide squeeze call
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)
A's starter Brandon McCarthy thought he caught a bunt from Elvis Andrus in the air and threw to third base for what he figured would be a double play. Instead, home plate umpire Laz Diaz ruled McCarthy trapped the ball, and Craig Gentry was safe at home, giving the Rangers a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning Thursday.
Melvin immediately ran from the dugout and gestured repeatedly at Diaz, who finally ejected the manager.
Replays were inconclusive.
