ROCHESTER RED WINGS - The Red Wings posted a 3-4 record on the week, splitting a two-game series with both Buffalo and Ottawa, then dropped two of three to Scranton/W-B. Terry Tiffee had a nice week, hitting .367 with two home runs and seven RBI. Both of Tiffee's homers came on August 10 in a dramatic 10-8 win over the Buffalo Bisons, in which Tiffee hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. Jason Kubel was his usual self at the plate, hitting .323 with a home run and nine RBI. Kevin West celebrated his promotion on August 15 with a solo home run in his first game with the team. The Red Wings hit eight bombs as a team for the week. On the mound, Beau Kemp went 2-0 out of the bullpen, and allowed just an unearned run on two hits in six innings of work. Kemp struck out six without issuing a walk. JD Durbin was lit up for ten runs - three of which were earned - on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to Scranton-W/B on August 13. The Red Wings remain around .500, at 61-62. NEW BRITAIN ROCK CATS - With the contest scheduled for August 11 against Akron and an off day on August 15, the Rock Cats played just five games, posting a 3-2 record. Bryan Kennedy led the way with a .462 average in 13 plate appearances Garrett Jones homered three times, hitting .381 with five RBI. The Rock Cat offense suffered a blow when Kevin West was promoted to Triple-A Rochester following the game on August 14. West, who hit .389 for the week with a pair of homers, was hitting .293, with 25 homers and 87 RBI on the year. Boof Bonser had a fine outing on August 13, picking up the win against Trenton. Bonser allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out nine in 6 2/3 innings. The Rock Cats are 57-62 on the year, 12 games back in the Northern Division of the Eastern League. FORT MYERS MIRACLE - The Miracle sandwiched four wins around two loses before Hurricane Charley postponed their game against Tampa, and cancelled the matchup with Sarasota. Elvis Corporan, Garrett Guzman, and Ben Pattee led the Miracle on offense. Corporan hit .353 and drove in three runs, while Guzman added three RBI and scored five runs. Pattee led Fort Myers with four RBI. Ricky Barrett and Levale Speigner each went 2-0 out of the bullpen without allowing a run. At 23-26, the Miracle are 5 1/2 games back in the Florida State League's West Division. SWING OF THE QUAD CITIES - The Swing split two great outings by Scott Tyler, en route to a 4-3 record on the week. Tyler tossed six shutout innings in a 7-0 win over Lansing, followed by a no-decision against Beloit, in which he allowed a run on three hits in six innings. Tristan Crawford went 1-0, tossing eight innings of shutout relief ball and struck out nine. Alex Garcia hit .462 in 13 at-bats, driving in two runs, while scoring five. At 26-24, Quad Cities sit five games back of Kane County in the Western Division of the Midwest League. ELIZABETHTON TWINS - The Twins began the week with four straight wins, but dropped three of their last four, for a record of 5-3. David Winfree led the Twins on offense, going 8-for-21 (.381). Winfree homered three times and drove in seven. Jeremy Pickrel and Deacon Burns knocked in four runs apiece. On the mound, Chris Marini and Steven Duguay starred. Marini (1-0) struck out ten in six shutout innings, allowing just two hits. Duguay (1-0) also tossed six innings of two-hit, shutout ball, and struck out six. The Twins moved to two games back in the West Division of the Appalachian League, with a record of 31-22.
