Mets LHP Byrdak has shoulder surgery
NEW YORK (AP)
General manager Sandy Alderson said in a release Thursday that the Mets are confident Byrdak will be able to pitch again in the major leagues.
The 38-year-old lefty specialist was leading the league with 56 appearances when he was injured Aug. 1.
Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek performed the surgery. Altcheck also repaired a similar injury in Johan Santana's shoulder, an operation that sidelined the ace for a year.
