Indians sign free agent C Matt Treanor
Treanor has also received an invitation to training camp, and if he earns a spot on Cleveland's 25-man roster, he'll make $800,000. The 37-year-old Treanor did not play last season while recovering from left knee surgery. He last played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.
A career backup, Treanor has a .221 batting average with 18 homers and 129 RBIs in 468 games with the Marlins, Detroit, Texas, Kansas City and Los Angeles. He was drafted by the Royals in the fourth round in 1994.
He played in four games during the Rangers' 2010 postseason run, including Game 2 of the World Series against San Francisco.
The Indians have considered moving catcher Carlos Santana to third base, and Treanor could provide them with some depth.
Treanor is married to Misty May-Treanor, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in beach volleyball.
