Houston, TX (Sports Network) - San Francisco's Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore's Rafael Palmeiro and Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. -- all members of the 500-home run club -- will be among the participants for this year's Home Run Derby. The annual slugging contest will take place on Monday, July 12 as part of the All-Star Game festivities at Minute Maid Park. Bonds, Sosa and Griffey will be joined by fellow National League All-Star Jim Thome of Philadelphia. The power-hitting first baseman leads the majors with 28 home runs this season and joined the 400-homer club earlier this year. Palmeiro was not selected for this year's All-Star Game and will be the first player not in the Mid-Summer Classic to participate in the Home Run Derby. Joining Palmeiro from the American League will be Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees, Boston's David Ortiz and Hank Blalock of Texas. Not only will the four active players in the 500-homer club be on hand, but all the living members of exclusive fraternity have been invited to Houston to join in the fun. Those elite players include Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Mark McGwire, Harmon Killebrew, Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Willie McCovey, Ernie Banks and Eddie Murray.
